The Sally Ride EarthKAM aboard the International Space Station is a marvel. Middle school students have programmed it and this picture of the Sahara desert in Western Libya is the result. Official details of what we see in the image were not released. It is most likely a false-color image and the blue is not indicative of water. It is probably inter-dune clay and silts. EarthKAM is the only program that provides students access to instruments on a spacecraft. It was initiated by Dr. Sally Ride, the first American woman in Space.
